Piestewa Peak Summit

Looking for a challenge? Have you hiked the Piestewa Peak Summit? Apparently it’s the most heavily used trails in the nation with thousands of people hiking it each week!! Given we’ve lived in the valley for almost two decades now, it was time to venture outdoors!

Piestewa Peak Summit Trail #300

  • Distance – 2.3 miles – out and back
  • Elevation – 1167 feet
  • Rated – Hard (that’s an understatement – for me! – bring plenty of water and take breaks often!)

I took at least 6 breaks on the hike up. I’m not in the best of shape. Stair steppers from hell! The little dude, well he could have ran up that mountain! Simply amazing though! Tons of people. All friendly. Insane views across the valley! It is so worth the taxing agony (remember, we’re talking about me here) the reward of reaching the summit makes it all worth the while!

Tip: When you get to the end of the trail, climb up and over the dead end. Most people will go to their left for the views. If you go to the right, you’ll come across the summit marker. That was our only goal/challenge on this hike. We had to reach that marker! Credit to Ian Schwartz of CBS 5 for the tip on where to find it! Thanks!
