Here’s the week five update of Lil Boo’s Sunflower Project.  To say the least, Lil Boo is ecstatic at watching these grow – however he was a bit concerned if you will at the ‘missing’ sections of a few leaves.  Looks like a few critters were hungry!

It shouldn’t be long now until we see some actual sunflowers!

These things are just out of control! Actually everything in the garden is growing like crazy right now!

Lil Boo has been quite intrigued to see the recent explosion of growth from not just the sunflowers but also the strawberries, tomatoes, zucchini, garlic chives, lavender, rosemary, peppers, apple mint along with an array of flowers!

It helps that over the winter we fed the worms in the garden with all the kitchen scraps!  The soil is amazing…and so are the worms – they are HUGE!!!

Much to his amazement (along with mine) the sunflowers are growing by leaps and bounds.  These photos were taken during week two.  A funny side note, when reading the planting directions – it stated one seed per 18 inches….as you may note by the photos ‘we’ did not follow the directions…typical guys!

Playing in the garden, learning about nature is one of #lilboo’s favorite things to do outside.  There is so much to learn and how it all works just intrigues his curious mind.  He planted a total of six rows of different types of sunflowers throughout the garden and this is what peaked through in just one week (this was two weeks ago) wait until you see week two!  He is a very happy camper!!

Let’s face it birthday parties have become outrageous today.  The competition of who is tossing the biggest and baddest world premiere birthday party has taken precedence over just enjoying the day with your child and perhaps some family and friends.  Be honest, who wants to deal with all the stress and anxiety?  I am sure the Doctors and Pharmaceuticals love it – think of the prescriptions for Ativan, Xanax or even the after party medication Lipitor!

Been there…done that…and most definitely not our cup of tea!

However, we do have fun, loads of fun!  From about 7am when the birthday boy wakes up until nightfall  - everyone that day is having a great time!  Parents are stress free, kids are having a blast and even Mom and Dad are enjoying themselves.  Oh, the atrocities of being so selfish – I know we are evil – how could we even think about enjoying ourselves…

You see, there is a lesson that’s been learned over the years, our learning curve…you see at one time and point I was the DA (dumb ass) that had to be the who’s who tossing world premiere birthday parties.  Seriously, who tosses an extravagant three-year old party? Shamelessly raising hand…yes – guilty and insane I plead.

Take it from someone that has been there…it’s not worth it.  Invite some friends and family, light up the BBQ or order some pizzas, get the bouncy out and most importantly offer good beer and cupcakes…life will be good!

Just remember, do not invite the children of the corn and for the family members that create drama….liquor them up quickly! ….then get out the camera!

By the way – the cupcakes photo’d above were done up by the Mrs.

Island Cupcake Recipe

• Chocolate Cake Mix
• White icing
• Blue sprinkles (to look like water)
• Brown Sugar or Sugar in the Raw (to make the island)
• Pretzel stick and sliced Kiwi (to make the umbrella)
• Swedish Fish (why not?)

Beer

• Newcastle Brown Ale
• Guinness

Really, it’s that simple and others will follow suit – before you know each party will just seem like one big play date – not bad?!

It really does not get any better…knowing how much your child truly loves you!  The other day I was cleaning up the office (btw you would never know by looking at it) and stumbled across a sticky note that #lilboo had written (I could only imagine by the hand writing that this was written about five months ago as his self led conference was last night and I am completely astonished at how beautiful his penmanship has become! #proudparentmoment). …and yes I just admitted at how often I clean the office….#fail.

It’s the little items in life, that mean so much!

As I shifted the saying, “Welcome to the YOB Years! Where all you need is a BIG Hug!” to the DaddyBookins.com site – it still holds true no matter what their age.

Who remembers the Seinfeld Dinner Party Episode with the Black and White Cookie – where Jerry loses his non-puking record?  Well, sadly enough it was our turn last night with #lilboo…the pukes are going around! What a joy!

It has been nearly 5 years since Lil Boo has had the pukes…yes I remember the day quite vividly…our boy was just a little tyke.  I was holding him while the projectile vomit splashed all over me…I didn’t care…not one bit…I just wanted my little guy to be alright since I know vomiting is one of the worst feelings in the world, especially for a child.  The joyous aroma of formula vomit…yes it is still quite a fresh memory. #ugh

Enter vomit-roma round deux!  The Mrs. just happened to hear some moaning coming from his bedroom and went to check on the little guy.  He was on the floor goofing about playing…hmm get back to bed goofy.  Next thing you know…we have quesadillas and green fun dip EVERYWHERE! Ah the joys of parenting bliss…My first thought, someone has a Valentine’s stash of candy and OD’d.  Scared shitless and crying however is a little boy….Mrs. immediately comforts him (Mommy’s are the BEST!) as Daddy gets out a bucket of HOT water and soap…fail…I need something heavy duty for this disaster…enter the Bissell Heavy Duty Heat Carpet Cleaner 5000…oh yeah…we mean business folks!

Fast forward a bit, Lil Boo’s room is like new!  Little boy is now laughing and cuddling up with his Mommy in the guest room….when oh yeah babe you know it…one…two…rush into the bathroom….baaaaaarrrrrrffffffff…..uuungghhh…..SCORE!!! We made it into the porcelain goddess!!  Yummy, delicious, green vile!   This boy is a trooper!  

Cleaned up and back in bed feeling better now that every last drop of whatever bug was in his stomach is now visiting our friends at the  City Sewer…I’m off to clean up some more…when lo and behold…my worst nightmare is staring vehemently in my direction waving its pesky little middle finger taunting my every step!  I could hear it chanting, “Oh yeah – whatcha gonna do about me you little biatch!”  A bloody tarantula snuck into the house and made it to the foyer!!  All I’ll say is I am deathly afraid of spiders and when this little punk stared me down….well I nervously screeched with a trembling “MF’er”!!!

WHACK!!!!

Yes, that is what it did to me! With a very detailed strategy I mapped out a plan of attack and yes I am a tarantula murderer…I admit it…guilty as charged…now time to clean up the mess…notice a trend here tonight?

Wrapping up…if you really made it this far…I finally crashed with #lilboo for awhile until the Mrs. came in and got me so my phone alarm wouldn’t wake him up as work beckoned my existence with other issues…

All is well now…a little boy is enjoying a light hearted day with his mommy wrapped up in the world of DSI, crackers and electrolytes.
